When to send your invitations

A simple timeline for weddings, christenings and birthdays, so nobody finds out last.

Too early and the invitation gets lost among other messages. Too late and people already have plans. Here's a timeline that works for most events.

Weddings

• 6–8 months before: a short “Save the date”, especially for guests abroad
• 8–10 weeks before: the full invitation
• 3–4 weeks before: the RSVP deadline
• 2 weeks before: a reminder for anyone who hasn't replied

Christenings

For a christening, 4–6 weeks is enough. The godparents should hear first, before the official invitation.

Birthdays and graduations

Three to four weeks ahead. For children's parties two weeks is usually enough, but give parents more notice if it falls on a weekend.

With a digital invitation, last-minute changes stop being a problem: update the details and every guest sees the new version on the same link.
